Pedigree Central "My philosophy is that the fact that we make the data freely available is what gives us the power to do good: to find genetic cures, to expose puppy mills, to allow wise breeders to make wise breeding decisions ..."

What is Pedigree Central?
Pedigree Central is your Internet portal for pedigrees. Just click on your favorite breed, and you will be transported directly to the website where you can get pedigrees.
What does it cost?
It costs nothing to use. The breeders who sponsor their breed through Pedigree Central do it because they care about their breed. This is a service by breeders for breeders.
My breed doesn't have a sponsor. I have the breeding records, can I be a sponsor?
Yes, you can.
What do I need to do?
You must have (or obtain) your own website with CGI capability. Then you can install the pedigree database software on your website, and upload your breeding records database.
I don't have a website with CGI capability. How do I get one?
If you have a "static" website, you can ask your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if they can upgrade you to CGI capability. There is usually an additional monthly fee for this privilege. If you do not have a website now, or your ISP cannot upgrade you to CGI capability, try contacting one of the following ISPs:

Why are you doing
this for free? Doesn’t it cost you
money?

In
1985, my mother and I started compiling the database for our own
breed-of-interest (Belgian Sheepdogs).
Our motivation was to collect and cross-reference real breeding
records to counteract a lot of disinformation spread by some breeders who are
motivated mostly by profit. I am a
computer programmer by training, so I thought that computerizing the data
would make it easier to maintain. Over
the course of the last 20+ years, that software has gone through various
incarnations, with its first debut on the web in 1998. Suggestions from other breeders encouraged
me to make it more widely available. I have done this even though the
webserver costs me about $50 per month, not to mention the time I spend
helping others get their own websites up and running. It is my intention to continue to make this
website and the software available for free to promote the spread of good
information. To defray my costs, I am now hosting advertisements. I also welcome donations from anyone
feeling so inclined. |

Here's what people are saying about Pedigree Central!
"One sign of the great benefit that you have provided to our breed is that through your efforts in making this program available to me, that Dr. Goldstein, a researcher at Cornell, was able to trace his Keeshond genetic testing and develop at test for the PHPT gene in Keeshond... He made extensive use of my website Keeshond database in his research." -- Steve Dworkin, Greykees Keeshonden
"Pedigree Central is nothing short of absolutely wonderful. After typing out far too many pedigrees, I went looking for a way of putting a pedigree database together and getting it onto my web site. I was stunned to find what it would cost for a web developer to do the work for me. With Jim's help, I now have a pedigree look up that is much, much better than what I originally had in mind. It looks terrific, it's very easy for visitors to my site to use and incredibly easy for me to maintain. Not only was it free, Jim patiently helped me get it up and running. I would happily recommend this service to anyone; thank you once again." -- Petra Davidson, Sparkling Acres Appaloosas: http://www.sparklingacres.co.nz/ New Zealand
"The wirehaired pointing griffon is small gene pool and it is essential for breeders to share pedigree and testing information. The
