What's this all about?

Do you have an Internet capable cellular telephone? Do you have a Wireless Palm Pilot? If so, you can get Belgian breeding information direct from your choice of wireless devices, wherever you are. Even in real-time at dog show ringside!


How does it work on my Cellular Phone?

Step 1.
 
Key the URL for the pedigree web site into your cell phone.
The first screen prompts you to enter a partial name to search for.
In this example, we enter "Alpha" and press the button under "Find".
Step 2.
 
Five matches are shown for "Alpha".
Use the arrow button to scroll down to the entry you are interested in.
In this example, we pick the third entry and press the button under "View".
Step 3.
 
All of the information for "Alpha" is displayed.
Scroll down to see whelp date, sire, dam, littermates and breedings.
You can link to more detailed information if you want.
Step 4.
 
In this example, we decide to view Alpha's littermates.
Scroll down to the "5 Littermates" link and press the button under "View".
Step 5.
 
The names of the five littermates are shown.
You can scroll down to any of the littermates you are interested in, and press the button under "View" to get full information on that dog.
Step 6.
 
In this manner, you can wander throughout the entire breeding database.
If you wish to start over with a new search, press the button under "Find" on the right hand side.

I don't have an Internet capable cell phone. How do I get one?

How does it work on my Palm Pilot?

Step 0. (Sorry about there being a step numbered zero, but the Palm requires extra setup).
 
Please follow these instructions to install the Palm Edition of the Belgian Breeding Search program on your Palm Pilot:
  • Download the program to your personal computer by clicking here.
  • Run the Palm Desktop software, and click on Install.
  • Click Add.
  • Specify the Belgians.pqa file you just downloaded.
  • Click Done.
  • Place your Palm organizer in the docking cradle.
  • Press the HotSync button.

You should then see the Belgians icon in the Applications area of your Palm Pilot. (In this example, it's the icon in the upper right hand corner.)

Tap on the Belgians icon in the Applications area of your Palm Pilot.
This launches the wireless web program.

In this example, we enter "Alpha" and tap the Search button.

Use the scroll bar on the right to view all the entries, if they don't all fit on the screen at once. To see more details, tap on the entry you are interested in.

Step 3.
 
All of the information for "Alpha" is displayed.
Scroll down to see whelp date, sire, dam, littermates and breedings.
You can link to more detailed information if you want, just by tapping on the link.
Step 4.
 
In this example, we decide to view Alpha's littermates.

Which Palm Pilot models does this work on?

The best model is the Palm VIIx.
It is also possible to upgrade the m100 and V series (by linking up with your cellular phone), and the III series (with a wireless modem) to wireless web capability.
